FOR A SUCCESSFUL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN YOUR HARDWOOD FLOORING AND YOUR PET
On this National Pet Day, it is essential to remember that you don’t have to give up on hardwood floors if you share your home with a four-legged companion.
We understand that your pets are an integral part of your family, and your choice of flooring is influenced by their presence. It’s important to note that it’s not so much the materials themselves that are the issue but rather the type of finish you choose. At Planchers Solu, you have full control over this choice.
In a previous article, “Choosing the Right Finish for Your Varnished Floor,” we explained that the lower the sheen (between 5 and 20%), the more wear signs blend into the finish. Less light reflection means fewer visible marks, which is an undeniable advantage.
Oiled finishes are extremely matte and offer the advantage of being easily repairable, making them a very interesting option for pet owners.
A brushed or antiqued finish is also an excellent choice because your pet’s claws can add character to your floor’s style.
Choosing a lighter color can help mitigate wear marks, and, if possible, opt for solid wood flooring rather than engineered flooring, as it can be sanded more frequently over the years.
Additionally, it is recommended to place rugs at the doors frequently used by your pet, allowing them to wipe their paws. You should also place a mat under the water bowl because water and hardwood don’t mix well.
Finally, regularly trimming your pet’s claws is a must. In case of accidents, even if the damage is less unpleasant than on a carpet, it is better to clean up quickly.
Wishing you an excellent National Pet Day! 🐾🐶🐱 #NationalPetDay
